Meet The Authors
“As a frustrated writer and beauty enthusiast, I pitched my way out of the Cosmopolitan magazine fashion cupboard as a junior stylist during the supermodel years, brimming with beauty ideas. I made a name for myself in the beauty industry, starting as a beauty editor and then freelancing on topics like hair, beauty, wellbeing, culture, and lifestyle for publications such as ELLE, Red, Glamour, The Guardian, and more. I authored seven globally published books, the first being Celebrity Style Secrets in 2003. My insights in beauty and journalism led me to help build Tangle Teezer into a global brand. Now, as a qualified life coach, I assist founders in developing brand identity and impactful storytelling that resonates with audiences.”
“My passion for beauty began at 17 when I started a side hustle as a Hair & Makeup Artist. Coming from an Indian household, a beauty career wasn't culturally accepted, so I pursued an English Literature degree. While studying, I was headhunted by Harrods Beauty Hall and enjoyed a 12-year career as a Freelance Makeup Artist. After graduating, I worked in property marketing but continued my beauty side hustle. Merging my love for marketing and beauty, I helped start-ups like Noughty Haircare, Ted Baker, and Ardell Beauty achieve global recognition. Experiencing gaslighting in my corporate job, I left to start my own consultancy, focusing on growing brands authentically. Only 1% of marketing agencies are women-owned, and even fewer by women of color. I'm proud to be part of that growing number. As Jacqui once said, "You have to be it to see it," which is the essence of this book.”
